alright kids, new question. anybody recently rediscover some old cd that they loved and hadn't listened to in ages? always a good feeling to obsess over some cd that you obsessed over years ago.

never really obsessed over it, but i've been listening to a lot of machina II lately. some good songs tucked in there.

most definitely. I got "Is this Desire?" (PJ Harvey) again. I had almost forgotten how much i love that ablum. just amazing. i gotta love pj, she's about the only female songwriter i like in current music. since i got my T1 back i've been on the prowl for new stuff i haven't heard before once again. definitely check out:

helium
hopesfall
dredg

i've also listened to shiner a lot and they just aren't doing it for me. i dunno. just nothing next to failure.

well, once i get a computer, then i should be set (did I tell you that mine crashed AGAIN--this time for good, because gateway doesn't carry the hard drive anymore) to download lots of music and try to catch up a bit. i'll check those bands out.

yeah, i'm not a huge shiner fan either, but do you see what I was getting at with your vocals sounding similar?

listening to a lot of disintegration now. does that mean i'm depressed?

Yeah, I see what you're saying with the comparison. I'm getting much better at the whole singing gig as times passes. Hopefully I'll finally get the vocals done the way I want them this go 'round. Our new recordings, when they're finally finished should sound 10x as good as anything we've done so far. BTW, Shiner's drummer is amazing.

I've been listening to a lot of Pornography lately. I hope you own that one, cause I think it kicks Disintegration's ass. And it also means I've probably already killed myself and I'm somehow walking around in some bullshit Shyamalan knockoff.

Is this desire is a great album, pj harvey proves us all wrong once again that semiunattractive girls can kick alot more ass than hot ones in the music biz. Speaking of the Cure, i've been listening to Bloodflowers a whole lot, great album, you can't get a much better opener than out of this world, that song has some of the best lyrics ever. A few cds that i've pulled out of the abyss recently are Hum - You'd Prefer an Astronaut, Jeff Buckley - Grace, Catherine Wheel - Chrome, and Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes. Speaking of Tori, when she played only 3 songs off off Little Earthquakes they were amazing, especially Precious Things. If you haven't heard that album in its entirety i highly suggest doing so, sadly she sort of hit her peak on her first album but still, its a work of genious. By the way, if you're a lesbian and are searching for a great place to pick up chicks, start going to tori shows, you'll get hooked right up.

Jim, Hopesfall isn't that band we saw open for far and the deftones, is it? What the hell was that band called?

And again, I can't implore you all to listen to Jawbox enough. Seriously, buy For your own special sweetheart. just truly outstanding.

I forgot to mention that. I downloaded "For Your Own Special Sweetheart" earlier and I'm totally digging on it. It's definitely pretty impressive in everything that it covers.

That band was Will Haven, which, ironically enough a friend of ours went on tour with to help them out. Basically don't bash them to the extent I do or we'll offend him. But they're the worst shit I've ever seen and I hate them with a passion, and...etc.

Hopesfall is a band that Talbott recorded at his studio. They have some of the best music I've heard and some of the worst singing -- hardcore screaming singing unfortunately. Get these songs for sure....

Escape Pod for Intangibles - Talbott sings on this, so you're good
Andromeda - pretty amazing instrumental, no vocals
Red Shift - same thing
Decoys Like Curves - he actually sings, so not much screaming
Endeavor - see how hardcore screaming can comically ruin a song

Also check out...

Team Sleep - the album is on the 'net, and it's pretty awesome
Pre Downward is Heavenward Demo - dude, get online so I can send this to you. It's hum playing live on a tape with rough versions of DIH songs plus one that didn't make it on the album. "Green to Me" is called "Moss Frog" and "Coming Home" is completely different. And this other song called "Santa Ana Hears" is pretty awesome, sounds like David Lowery walked into the room and said "put down the distortion pedal and lets make real music."

Man, once I get a computer again, I will certainly download all of the above. I've somehow managed to lose both of my national skyline cds (although have a burned copy of this=everything to get by), which really pisses me off. And I can't find my downward is heavenward, so I think I'm just going to go buy it again. This cd store across from where I work is going out of business and was having massive sales, and amongst the shit I found the centaur cd new for $3.95 and shifting skin used for $.69. Two excellent cds for less than $5, hell yeah. Picked up new deftones finally as well, very enjoyable. not totally blown away, but excellent cd. and i can picture so easily in my mind chino belting out that first scream on the cd. rock.
