here, yet again, are my (disagreeable) opinions:

Sure, there is a great deal of fantasy involved in the matrix. Yes, The matrix did borrow heavily from the bible but so what? Though many may not like the twist The Matrix takes on gnosticism, in my opnion, the plot is well thought out.. I enjoyed the sequel not only for its action (and if one complians about cg they would have to in every other movie) but also for its plot connections. From my perspective, i cannot imagine it being at all unoriginal (although im gonna have to look into this gibson guy now). The sequel answered questions and posed many new questions for revolutions to explain. Sure, we are are harvested by machines, but you certainly cannot sum up the entire plot that way. .. there was just way too much development. If you absoultely despise the plot for some reason, you at least have to appreciate the work that went into the movie aside from it. . . It took them 3 years to choreograph the fights and cg! with the exception of an air-twirling neo, i totally enjoyed all of it.

as for the jason and freddy films, i cannot comment because i haven never seen any of them (that i can remember).

All fair enough reasons and perfectly valid. I do enjoy the choreography and work that goes into movies of this scale, I just find this particular one way too indulgent. But I can also see why it would be intriguing, and certainly the subject of what makes us human, compared to machines, is really interesting. I absolutely love Blade Runner, and it deals with a somewhat similar realm of thought. Disagreement noted, well put.

The original nightmare on elm street is an excellent horror movie. Good horror movie premise, Freddy isn't all goofy yet, and Johnny Depp is in it. Other than the lame ending, good horror movie.

I saw it again. It does have maybe the best special effects work I've ever seen. But if there's a movie to compare one of this type to it's the Terminator. And let's face it, T2 did what no science fiction film involving robots will ever do again. They understood that the premise was only an excuse to use incredible special effects and action scenes. Yes, they delivered a story that mattered and we all cared about, but they didn't take it overboard. My problem with the Matrix is that it wants to have the same awe-effect that the Terminator does while simultaneously being the Lord of the Rings in terms of scale and epic drama. Do I think it can be pulled off? Absolutely. Was the Matrix the series of films to do it? No. Not even close. Very few movies have been able to deliver in what they're doing. I think Lord of the Rings is one of them. It has tons of effects work, most of it very very good, but it doesn't make the effects the focus. Did the Agent Smith fight with Neo exist for pure effects work or to drive a plot? Well, since Neo spends 10 minutes fighting him(them) and then flies off (why does every "chosen one" seem to suffer from being a fucking idiot -- somehow anakin is and the darth vader isn't, i dunno, but it's a trend that needs to stop -- well, the whole "one" trend needs to stop) I think it's safe to say that the plot was put on hold for 10 minutes. The wachowski brothers are very much in control of what they need captured on a screen, and they have excellent command of the visual flair and cinematography, set design, costumes, etc. But they still don't have any idea how to put a story together, how to capture drama, how to spot talent in acting (well, they did a good job with everyone else), and especially how to show the hot chick in latex naked instead of a retard's ass.

Basically agree with what Jim said. Not surprised that they didn't show much skin (well, female) in this movie. The Wachowski bros did manage to get through Bound (super good movie) without showing much skin.

And Carrie-Anne Moss isn't particularly attractive in real life, or at least not recently. Saw her in an interview and she's put on a bit of weight (not much), but it's thrown her face all out of wack somehow. I, in a moderate drunken phase, said something to this effect at a party the other night ("she's not as hot anymore, she's put on some weight") and got a rather evil stare from a girl. Whoops.

I dunno man. I think Bound had possibly the single hottest lesbian scene I've ever seen. Then again Gershon and Tilly will do that for just about anybody. But while that one had style and seemed to have some serious intensity to it, the Matrix one had the lamest shit I've ever seen. Only hobbit sex could top it. Thank god Tolkein new better.

Wow, very nice Steven...anyway, yes, the Matrix totally sucked hard D and i haven't been this disapointed since they took Family Guy off the air (wretched bastards). I wasn't expecting plot, hoping for plot, or even wanting plot...I was just looking for cool shit and explosions. I mean, these days you can expect nothing more from a big budget hollywood blockbuster. I didn't even get a hug on the way out of the theater, and i usually want a little bit of affection after i get fucked out of my money. I wasn't even impressed with the special effects or the directing. The first had a very tanglible and unique quality to it, amazing lighting, original fight and special effects scenes, and stuff you'd never thought you'd see on film. This one however, some how they managed to make the worst easy to make movie of all time. I didn't think there would be anyway to screw it up, but they did it. The figting was shit, the dialog was writen by chinese prison labor i'm sure of it, and the story was just beyond the realms of shit. I mean, the special effects were good and very realistic but if they're used for no reason then what's left to appreciate. "Yeah, this looks great, but why the fuck is it here?" And even the special effects will never touch something like Blade Runner or Alien, Ridley Scott in his prime was the fucking man, that is before he decided to turn the suck way way up. They tried to incorporate all this cool shit like Neo flying and that he's telecanetic and all that shit but like they'd use the stuff once and then never go back to it leaving the viewer constantly wondering "Well why didn't he just do that?!?" Keep it simple, blow shit up, make more people die, use bigger guns, bigger tits and make it funnier. No one wants to see a sequel that is less than its predescesor. And if you want plot and development of characters, which is fine and i welcome with open arms, don't cast a stoner robot as the messiah, because who will take anything you do seroiusly afer that?

I'm sure Jim would be more than happy to give you a handjob if you asked really nicely. And made puppy dog eyes.
