anyone had the chance to hear any of the album's songs yet? Ive listened to it and am somewhat disappointed. The album title insinuates that they dont wish to stick to one form of alternative rock, but in attempting variation, theyve ended up sounding like other bands, and in some cases directly borrowed some riffs. They're are a couple songs, like yesterday, that are awesome, but im not sure about the rest of the album.. hopefully it will grow on me.. As i have said before i think staind's last album was among the best ever.

Oh My God man.. comparing Aaron Lewis to Eddy Vedder.. I hope for the sake of Andreia you have a better ear than that. Creed, sure, The Calling, definately, but Staind sounds nothing like pearl jam. Listen to the music before you bash it plz.. could you honestly even name two break the cycle songs off the top of your head?
Look, I respect your opinion, but lets try to avoid insulting each other from now on. I asked what people thought of 14 shades of grey.. plz listen to it and then form an opinion.. If you really want to enjoy staind, download Break the Cycle first.

if you noticed, i didn't say staind sounded anything like pearl jam, i said the worst eddy veder impersonation i have ever heard, concerning his voice! yes, he does try to sound like eddy veder. i have heard break the cycle, the only semi-listenable song on that entire cd is outside as i recall. im not bashing you, just staind. their just another regurgitated nu-metal band. btw, don't refer my opinions as andreia's because they are certainly not. i have my own opinion and i can express it however i want. i've heard the single off of 14 shades of grey and it's awful, i would assume the rest of the album is too, that's why im not going to buy it. the first one was awful, this one is probably the same case, but just for you, ill download a few more tracks and give it a better listen. _________________ spent the look in your eyes

i have not heard the new album. i dont plan to listen to it. I have never been impressed by much that staind has done, other than a few of the songs of the last album. they just seem to be trying to write catchy stuff. |

Hey goody, you keep talkin about break the cycle which makes me think you dont know what your talkin about when you mention staind. I used to be a pretty big fan. especially when i saw them blow Limp Bizcrap off the stage back in the day when no one knew who they were. Have you ever heard of Dysfunction, or Tormented. Bot 100 times better than Break the Cycle. That album was made for MTV. Fuck Break The Cycle. Shitty album name too. Well they all are, so scratch that last remark. But seriously, download "These 4 walls" off of "Tormented" if you want to hear a good song. _________________ ^v^ Yeah, Im in the band! ^v^

Of course i have heard of them.. I was a huge fan of them when durst refused to play on stage with them, and then signed them to a contract after hearing them play a stage (though i will admit i didnt hear of them till then, when dysfuction was already out). And to say break the cycle was made for mtv.. come on.. they were blasting mudshovel on the radio nonstop when dysfunction came out.. I can see why you like tormented and especially dysfunction.. But the reason i like break the cycle more than either of them is because they really honed their technique... They're rythm calmed down and you could really hear the talent of aaron lewis. Wheras in their previous albums you had fast, loud songs like spleen, which just had lewis screaming SHUUUUT UPPP!!! showing no real talent .. reminded me of slipknot. Even Self Destruct has this quality, as well as the fact that it sounds like it was played by a garage band. As for 4 walls, it is a likeable song because they do not scream and lewis truly sings, but it most definately does not have the same energy as "open your eyes" does. When i listen to songs from tormented then songs from dysfunction,i see how much staind has progressed. I see break the cycle as a culmination of their talent. That is why i find 14 shades of grey somewhat disappointing.
nsal.. yeah i see your point.. eddy vedder and aaron lewis do have similar voices, but in my opinion lewis is 8 times better... _________________ This is where I typed my signature. |

Without getting into all the nuances of this staind argument (they suck! no, they don't!), I have to stick up for Eddie Vedder. At least he doesn't have to write with a rhyming dictionary sitting next to him. And it's so obvious that the dude from Staind wants to be Eddie Vedder, he even covered Black and made an awesome song really boring. The only thing I'll give them credit for is they at least have the balls to put down the electric guitar from time to time, unlike most other nu metal bands, but that's sort of like being the smart kid on the small bus. Eddie Vedder is infinitely more talented, beyond the fact that his band has all the heart, passion, and credibility that nu metal bands can only dream of. And he can write songs about something other than how his mommy didn't give him enough attention. I hear Staind's next album title is going to be "I'm grumpy! WHAAAAA!" |
