In a pathetic attempt to get people on the board so Brad doesn't kill himself, I ask who are your favorite directors, who cares about movies, directors are whats important.

OK, I spent some time thinking about this, and I honestly can't just give you a list of three of my favorite directors. There just isn't one, two, or three directors I can honestly say are my FAVORITES. In my opinion, you have to be knowledgeable regarding most if not all of the director's films, and he has to have directed more than one. If not, how can you really judge whether you like his work or not? For example, a couple of you have listed Richard Kelley ("Donnie Darko") as a favorite. Don't get me wrong, I love Donnie Darko as much as the next guy, in fact I was an OG when it comes to that film, but that's another story. Anyways, I happen to know that Kelley totally ripped off some of the ideas from another film, albeit a lesser one. That I cannot respect. And what if the next movie he makes is totally gay? Will he still be one of your favorites then? I'll wait until I see his next film to pass judgement, hopefully it will be an original idea. I didn't mean to rip on any of you who listed him as a favorite, I was just using him as an example. Since I cannot list 3 favorites like you have, I'll list some of my favorite movies and their respective directors.

Boogie Nights - Paul Thomas Anderson
Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums - Wes Anderson
The Thing - John Carpenter
Tron - Steven Lisberger
Dark Crystal - Jim Henson

Gray, stop hating in an unchecked manner. Kelley did not steal ideas from Gregg Araki's Nowhere, but merely borrowed them. Who cares if the main character's name was Dark? Who cares if Dark was looking for love because he knew the end of the world was coming, just like in Donnie. The most important thing Kelley did was place the movie in the 80s'(where it belongs b/c it is so good), make it far more accessible yet deeper in meaning, and did a far superior job in editing that Araki could have ever hoped to do. Oh yeah, and in Nowhere Dark's friend is a mutant space reptile that walks on its back legs as opposed to a guy in a bunny suit. Darko's atmoshpere and score are also far superior. So in conclusio, Kelley did rip off Araki, but at least he did it properly.
P.S. Some of this post contains sarcasm, but I'm not sure where.

First off: Kelley probably got his ideas for Donnie Darko when he watched "Nowhere" while he was stoned. I already acknowledged that Darko was a better film, but nowhere near as original as people like you seem to think it is.

Secondly: Tron kicks ass.

First off, Gray, you've never actually seen Nowhere, you know what I've told you about it, but since you've never seen it I don't think you should be comparing the two. Secondly, no comment about TRON though since I was only able to watch 20 minutes of it before I got depressed about wanting to work in a field that produces crap like that.

Ryan, please give up on Steve Odekirk, he is such a turd, did you see "Kung Pow," what a wretched movie, does the guy ever have any original ideas?

I think the only thing I need to know about "Nowhere" is that it shares too many similarities with Donnie Darko to be called a coincidence, and ("gasp!") it was made three years before Darko was. No comment about the Tron comment. Since you haven't seen the whole film, nothing you say about the film really matters to me. Let's just end the bashing now before I have to go off on Luc Besson.
